Rising Pune Supergiants – Under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, it’s rare to see team struggling to make a win. After an injury to Kevin Pietersen, things assumed to be worst as chances he may rule out of IPL 9. The lack of hitting power was been seen against the RCB, thanks to Perera’s 25 in an over that was a match worth watching.

It will be interesting to see, what changes Dhoni brings in replacement of Kevin Pietersen. Dhoni talked about bringing in an all-rounder, it is expected Albie Morkel to take his place.

Kolkata Knight Riders – The most stable team in the IPL and currently ranking top of the table. The openers are in good form, and are been continuously giving good start to the team. The middle order hasn’t been tested much, as Gambhir have been in prime form, scoring majority of runs.

Having, Narine back in the squad, the bowling looks more fearless. The only way RPS have good chances to win against the KKR is to get quick wicket of Gambhir as that would bring a lot of pressure on the KKR team.

IPL 2016 Pune vs Kolkata Match Highlights

Toss – KKR opted to bowl first

1st Innings Highlights – Another toss and another bowling first result from an IPL captain, and why not the result are pretty impressive. RPS started with the opening pair, scoring 6 an over. Faf got bowled out in 4th over and RPS managed to score just 31 runs in the batting power play.

Rahane and Smith scored a partnership of 56 runs in 54 balls, where RPS were 80/2 in 12.2 overs. RPS desperately needed some quick striking of ball, as a result Thisara came up the order. Unfortunately, his batting didn’t worked out this time, also Rahane got caught at 67, were RPS were 119/4 in 17 overs.

Thanks to Morkel’s 16 in 9 and Dhoni’s 23 in 12 which helped RPS reach 160/5 in 20 overs. The last 3 overs, RPS scored 41 of just 18 balls.

2nd Innings Highlights – Picking up Albie wasn’t a mistake, first contributing by runs and then picking a wicket of the very first ball. RPS also managed the early wicket of in-form Gambhir. Still, KKR scored 59 runs of the batting power play.

But, as Dhoni introduced spin, KKR run rate dropped from 10 to 7 per over. This gave a good chance for RPS to get back in the game. Wicket got stumbling on one, also incoming batsmen continued scoring boundaries.

Now, an equation of 17 runs in 12 balls and 4 wickets in hand. KKR lost 2 more wickets, and needed 6 of 4 balls, Umesh Yadav hit a long six and won the match by 3 balls to spare.
