After South Africa lost to the West Indies, England has a major chance for qualifying into the World semi-final 2016. With West Indies winning 3 in 3, they have already qualified for the semi-final first spot from Group-1.
On other hand, England has a tally 2 win and 1 loss. And, Sri Lanka and South Africa 1 win and 2 losses each. And, Afghanistan already being ruled out of WC 2016 losing all. It comes down to the simple equation.
The equation of England winning the match and confirming 2nd semi-spot. Or, if Sri Lanka wins against them with a bigger margin, they qualify for the semis. And, if Sri Lanka win against England with smaller margin, South Africa has their chance to qualify for the semis.
England – They have well after their loss against West Indies, winning against South Africa and chasing down huge total has certainly lift-up their confidence. When after batsmen failed against Afghanistan, bowlers backed them up, and this is the sign of team-work. The momentum is with them, this should be an easy task to take down the Sri Lankan team.
Sri Lanka – In one word, too much dependent on the seniors. This young team is not only struggling with batting, but bowling look shaky too. The senior aren’t performing, and that brings a lot of pressure in the hands of youngsters.
Malinga missing due to injury has affected Sri Lankan bowling a long way. Someone will have to the “Kohli” of Sri Lankan team to bring back the confidence.

Toss – Sri Lanka won the toss, opted to bowl first.
1st innings – Sri Lanka made a perfect start, after choosing to bowl first. They succeed to pick up an early wicket of Alex Hales at 4/1 in 1.4 overs. England found it difficult to play against the spin. As, end of batting powerplay, England were 38/1 at 6 overs.
England struggled with slow pace, struggling against the spin. At end of 10 overs, England lost their 2nd wicket with just 65 runs on board. When England needed a partnership, it was provided with Jos Buttler and Eoin Morgan contributing crucial 74 runs 43 balls.
England reach a target of 171/4 in 20 overs.
2nd innings – England made an excellent start to the 2nd innings taking 2 wickets in first 2 overs of the match. Not just that, England took down 2 more wickets at 15 and Sri Lanka were in serious problem with 15/4 at 3 overs.
When they needed a serious partnership Mathews and Chamara stepped up scoring 80 runs in next 10 overs. Sri Lanka were 95/5 at 13 overs.
Mathews made his half century and another 42 runs partnership with Perera. Only man standing and backbone of Sri Lankan team took Sri Lanka to of 161 at the end of 20 overs.
Unfortunately, Sri Lanka lost by 10 runs and we really felt sorry for the Sri Lankan captain. As, England became the 2nd team to advance to semis.
